of the Week It was a relentless offensive onslaught from the get-go for Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky this past Sunday against the Buccaneers Josh Bellamy Jerseys Stitched , and he’s been appropriately recognized for his efforts. After going 19-of-26 for 354 yards, six touchdowns, including five in the first half (a Bears’ record), and enjoying a 154.6 passer rating, Trubisky has been named the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week for Week 4. He also added 53 yards on the ground on three carries. A well-deserved honor for the 24-year-old second-year quarterback all things considered. Trubisky’s long-awaited first breakout performance beat out Los Angeles Rams third-year star Jared Goff’s five passing touchdowns and 465 yards against the Vikings, as well as the Colts’ Andrew Luck’s 464 yards and four scores inflicted on the Texans. Thanks to Trubisky’s performance, $2,000 will given to the USO in Trubisky’s name. It’s going to be difficult for Trubisky to maintain the torrid play he enjoyed against Tampa Bay. It’s not every week you get to set records, after all. But at least the young passer has a baseline of consistency to work from now, and has proven generally capable of leading Chicago forward. Robert is the Editor-in-chief of The Blitz Network (subscribe here!) Youth Mike Ditka Jerseys , the managing editor of Windy City Gridiron, and writes for a host of other fine publications. You can follow him on Twitter @RobertZeglinski. BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears‘ offense hasn’t progressed to a point where it can consistently beat the defense at practice. Then again, few teams could.“I mean, I don’t think a defense has existed like this,” offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said Friday after practice.Players and coaches look ahead to when they’re game-planning opponents instead of going against their own first-team defense, all while downplaying an early lack of rhythm in their passing game between receivers and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.“He’s not where we want him to be yet,” second-year coach Matt Nagy said about Trubisky. “He knows that. I think right now, the best part for us is we’re getting a lot of different looks (from the defense), and we’re moving people around in different spots.“And we’re just watching him grow. He’s leaps and bounds further than he was last year.”At Friday’s practice Mike Ditka Jerseys Stitched , safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix took advantage of his first meaningful scrimmage time by picking off Trubisky’s throw to Allen Robinson in the end zone. Linebacker Danny Trevathan also picked off a deflected Trubisky pass. Earlier in the week, Khalil Mack’s pass rush led to an interception.“I’m looking at mistakes and I’m looking at areas I’ve grown in, and then when we have a mistake on the field, make sure I’m talking to my guys and make sure we’re fixing it,” Trubisky said earlier in the week.Trubisky said he is realistic as he tries to lead the Bears back from a 21st ranking both in offense and passing offense.“Just continue to criticize myself and try to be a perfectionist, but I see the growth as well,” Trubisky said. “It’s practice. You’re going to make mistakes. They’re meant to be made, but you’ve got to come back and correct them and get better each day.”Trubisky’s deep passing has been spotty, in particular.“Deep ball right now … they’re probably not (completing) as much as last year, just because right now we feel pretty good with knowing we can do that Youth Marcus Cooper Jerseys ,” Nagy said. “We’ll keep it going. And that stuff is going to come. He knows how we do things. He knows our mentality of touchdown-to-checkdown. So I’m not really concerned with that.”Nagy said the individual pass isn’t as important as Trubisky’s reaction.“You’re never going to have great practices all the time,” Nagy said. “If there really was a practice that was just OK, when it’s kind of choppy, what I’m looking for is how does he handle that situation? Does he mope? Does he put his head down? Or does he freaking get ready for the next play and get ready to roll?”Frustration hasn’t set in yet, according to second-year wide receiver Anthony Miller.“You’ve gotta remember, Mitch, he’s young just like us,” Miller said. “He came into this brand-new offense just like us and I know it’s gotta be very different for a quarterback. That’s the hardest position on the field, in my opinion, because you have to know the play each and everybody is doing.“We’re just following Mitch with whatever his plan is Marcus Cooper Jerseys Stitched , we’re following.”The Bears anticipate the offense can take shape when all components have been worked through at camp, but the running attack is still being blended with the pass.Rookie running back David Montgomery and veteran Mike Davis on Friday got their first real rushes against live tackling for an extended period. The same problem afflicted the rushing attack as the passing game — inconsistency.Montgomery broke several tackles on one hard-charging run late in practice, but earlier the first-team offense was beaten by the second-team defense for a safety on a running play.Pressure from the first-team defense has been as rough overall on run blocking, but Helfrich called it understandable considering the opponent.“Sometimes when you draw up the play and you have the “O” blocking the “X,” and the “X” is Khalil Mack, that’s a bad matchup for a lot of Os,” Helfrich said.NOTESRookie guard Alex Bars from Notre Dame suffered a knee contusion and left practice on a cart, but Nagy doubted the injury was serious. … Tight end Adam Shaheen worked extensively with the offense a second day after missing several days with back pain. … Rookie receiver Riley Ridley remains out after suffering a hamstring injury in the first practice July 26.

Before this season White Mike Pouncey Jerseys , receiving yards in the year he turned 38 or older. This season, two tight ends have done so.Antonio Gates, the Chargers’ 38-year-old tight end, has 312 receiving yards this season. And Saints tight end Benjamin Watson, who will turn 38 next week, has 337 receiving yards this season. They’re the two oldest tight ends in NFL history to top the 300-yard mark in a season.Only 10 times in NFL history has a player had 300 or more receiving yards in the year he turned 38 or older. Five of those 10 times, that player was Jerry Rice. Hall of Fame receiver Charlie Joiner did it twice, Irving Fryar did it once, and now Watson and Gates have become the ninth and 10th players, and first and second tight ends, to do it.Gates and Watson have had long and successful NFL careers, and both have said they’re considering retiring after this season. It’s possible they could play their last game on the same field Mike Pouncey Jerseys 2019 , and meet in the Super Bowl. PITTSBURGH (AP) — On the surface they’re identical. Below the surface too. Large. Loud. Remarkably athletic and remarkably close. Well compensated and well tattooed.Still, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey believes there is one surefire way to tell him and Los Angeles Chargers center (and very slightly older brother) Mike apart on Sunday night when the Chargers visit Heinz Field.Just have the twins switch places at halftime and let Maurkice snap the ball to Los Angeles quarterback Philip Rivers for a quarter or two. Then the differences between the Pounceys will be unmistakable.“I’ll take that team to the next level baby,” Maurkice Pouncey said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “They’ll definitely notice.”Maurkice is kidding. Mostly, though he does have a slight edge over Mike in Pro Bowl selections (six to three). The 29-year-olds are well aware of the unique opportunity playing against each other offers. Separated by a minute at birth, the Pounceys were virtually inseparable growing up until Maurkice left the University of Florida for the NFL in 2010.They’ve spent their professional lives rooting for each other from afar — Sunday is only the fifth time they’ll be together in the same NFL stadium — and both feared Mike’s career might be in jeopardy after a hip injury limited him to five games with the Miami Dolphins in 2016.“It was a point that we both thought that and it was tough,” Maurkice said. “Lord willing, a lot of hard work, and the doctors did a great job. Obviously he’s playing at a high level and he’s been blessed to be out there.”Mike returned to play a full 16 games last season, but found himself looking for work after the Dolphins cut him in a salary cap move in March. The Chargers sprinted to scoop him up, bringing him to the West Coast on a two-year, $15 million deal just four days after getting released. The change of scenery provided Mike Pouncey with a mid-career jolt White Isaac Rochell Jerseys , and his presence has played a significant role in the Chargers’ hot 8-3 start.“We knew it was a big signing when we signed him,” Los Angeles coach Anthony Lynn said. “But it’s even better than what I thought.”Asked what the Mike Pouncey experience is like, Lynn laughed.“I’m pretty sure it’s similar to what you guys have in Pittsburgh,” he said.Translation: a lot of jokes. A lot of trash talk. And a relentless work ethic that belies their copious amounts of swagger.“He’s the same player as me,” Mike Pouncey said. “He’s going to go out there and give you everything he has on each play. (My teammates) more excited (than I am) because we have a real good friendship on this team, and they go out there and talk smack to my brother to make me feel a little bit better. It’s going to be fun.”The entire Pouncey clan will descend on Maurkice’s house in the Pittsburgh suburbs on Saturday. As for split allegiances, Maurkice’s offer to host came with one very simple directive: If you root for the Steelers, you can crash at his place. If not? You’re on your own.How tight are they? Maurkice admits Mike might be the only person in the world outside of his children he actually calls on the phone rather than just texting. It’s the same for Derek and T.J. Watt, though the two brothers — T.J. is a second-year linebacker for the Steelers, Derek is in his third season as a fullback for the Chargers — won’t have the luxury of standing on the sideline watching the other play like the Pounceys do.There’s a very real chance that T.J. and Derek will find themselves on a collision course sometime Sunday night, the first time that’s ever happened somewhere other than the family backyard or the random University of Wisconsin football practice when both were playing for the Badgers. Not that T.J. believes there’s going to be time to think about bragging rights. If his assignment on a play is to ram into the guy wearing No. 34, then that’s what he’s going to do.“It’s a football game to me Isaac Rochell Jerseys 2019 ,” T.J. said. “I don’t think anything is going to really change. I don’t think in that split second you can determine who’s who and what’s what, so whatever happens, happens.”Older brother J.J., the star defensive end for the Houston Texans, hopes they are forced to ram into each other at least once so “we can settle it once and for all.” Provided, of course, there’s no cheating on either side.“I basically just said, no cut-blocks,” J.J. said. “That’s the only thing. Just don’t go at his knees. Otherwise, everything’s fair.”Though Derek, 26, lacks the star power of his older or his younger brother — both of whom were first-round picks while the Chargers selected Derek in the sixth round in 2016 — T.J. White Darius Philon Jerseys , 24, might know better than anyone on the planet that you overlook the middle Watt brother at your own risk.“He may not get all the publicity that J.J. and I get, but Derek’s been in the NFL, this is his third year,” T.J. said. “I don’t see many people in America doing that. I don’t see many people in the world doing that. He’s playing at the highest level. He’s a starting fullback for an NFL team; I think that’s pretty damn cool.”Connie and John Watt will watch their boys go at it from the stands, trying to stay as neutral as possible. They might want to get used to it. All three Watt brothers are on teams heading to the postseason, meaning more family showdowns loom.“I hope the game, I don’t know, I guess ends in a tie,” J.J. Watt said. “I guess that’s probably the best thing for everybody. It’s probably good for (the Texans) too.”

has been denied Black Landry Jones Jerseys , meaning he will sit out Sunday’s game against Indianapolis. The Jacksonville Jaguars running back was suspended without pay for leaving the sideline, running across the field and punching Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson. Fournette appealed, but retired NFL receiver James Thrash affirmed the one-game punishment that will cost Fournette close to $100,000.The NFL and NFL Players’ Association appointed Thrash to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan handed down the penalty Monday, saying “sportsmanship is the cornerstone of the game and the league will not tolerate game-related misconduct that conveys a lack of respect for the game itself and those involved in it.”Fournette and Lawson were ejected in the third quarter of Buffalo’s 24-21 victory and continued jawing at each other as they exited the field and entered the tunnel to the locker rooms.Fournette will be eligible to return to the team’s active roster Monday. “It’s easy to see when a team has quit. That’s the pride we’re going to uphold. We’re not a quitting team.”The quote above is from Abry Jones earlier in the week Landry Jones Jerseys 2019 , reflecting on a disappointing season while still in the middle of said disappointing season. There are still seven games to go and already the playoffs are an unrealistic possibility. We are 10 months removed from the doorstep of the Super Bowl and we’re nearly eliminated from playoff contention in November. Most recently, the Jaguars have looked... not themselves. Blown coverages, not knowing how to get out of a huddle, absent-minded play calling, and late-night incidents at nightclubs have peppered the last few weeks. The team is trending downward hard and the question of “quitting” has made its way into the conversation.Coaches Black Cedric Ogbuehi Jerseys , front offices, players — none of them will tell you during the season that there is any quit in the locker room. They’re playing for pride, or professionalism, or their jobs next season. But these players aren’t machines. When the prospect of the playoffs is taken away, it can be easy to take it a little easier on the practice field or leave the film room a little earlier than you would have otherwise. What do you think? With the playoffs out of the picture Cedric Ogbuehi Jerseys 2019 , do you think this team has started to quit? Let us know in the comments below.

White Eddie Jackson Jerseys , right?" The Bears DenNotesXs and OsSuperfansMitchell’s Way Too Early 53 Man & Practice Squad PredictionsNew,52commentsIt’s never to early to guess about the 2019 roster, right? CDTShare this storyShare this on FacebookShare this on TwitterShareAll sharing optionsShareAll sharing options for:Mitchell’s Way Too Early 53 Man & Practice Squad PredictionsTwitterFacebookRedditPocketFlipboardEmailPhoto by Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesI was sitting here looking through the 2019 Bears roster and thinking about a few hard cuts that are going to be coming when it’s time to move down to our season-opening 53-man roster. Unlike many years in the recent past, we are going to let some good players walk (or work last-minute trades) come cut-down time. Obviously, it’s way too early to tell how the rookies are going to show, but since when has facts like that ever stopped a guy like me from making some wild guesses on the internet? So here’s my first guess at our 53-man roster on cut-down day, barring injuries. Of course, our other Windy City Gridiron writers will be making their own predictions over the next couple of months, so stay tuned for those as well!OffenseWide Receivers: Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Riley Ridley, Cordarrelle Patterson, Javon Wims, Emanuel Hall on IR - 7The wide-receiver room is absolutely stacked, and usually I would say we would keep no more than 6... but with Cordarrelle Patterson we have a guy that’s as much of a returner and a runner as somebody who catches the ball, I give this group an extra slot. I think the two low-end guys, Wims & Emanuel Hall, are just too high-ceiling and young to release for a team that is going to have be needing to keep younger/cheaper options going forward. I think the Bears give Hall, who’s been diagnosed with a hernia, the “rookie redshirt” and IR him. Offensive Line: Charles Leno Jr., James Daniels, Cody Whitehair, Kyle Long, Bobby Massie, Ted Larsen, Rashaad Coward. Alex Bars on IR - 7This unit is solid, and I think Coward has more upside than Bradley Sowell. Alex Bars will get the rookie medical redshirt as well Eddie Jackson Jerseys 2019 , he just won’t be NFL ready this season with the knee recovery he’s doing. Tight Ends: Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen, Ben Braunecker, Dax Raymond. - 4Assuming Raymond shows what I think he will, this room is fairly set. Quarterbacks: Mitchell Trubisky, Chase Daniel. - 2Tyler Bray will go though camp, and remain on speed dial... but the Bears carry two QB’s this year.Running Backs: Mike Davis, Tarik Cohen, David Montgomery, Kerrith Whyte, Jr. - 4This is a good room as well. Fullback: NoneDefenseDefensive Ends: Akiem Hicks, Bilal Nichols, Jonathan Bullard, Roy Robertson-Harris - 4Not much controversy hereNose Tackle: Eddie Goldman, Abdullah AndersonWhy Anderson? I just like the guy.Outside Linebacker: Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Aaron Lynch, Kylie Fitts, Mathieu Betts. - 5Here’s one that I’m going way “outside the box” on but I’ve been watching tape of Betts, he’s the kind of guy Chicago will love. I haven’t seen enough upside from Isaiah Irving to tell me he’s here to stay.Inside Linebacker: Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Nick Kwiatkoski, Kevin Pierre-Louis - 5Not as sure on this group... but Pierre-Louis is a great special teams guy. Outside Cornerback: Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Kevin Toliver II, Sherrick McManis - 4The top three are set, and McManis showed a lot of versatility in covering the nickle last year when needed.Slot Cornerback: Buster Skrine White Tarik Cohen Jerseys , Duke Shelley - 2This assumes that Shelley’s technique is good enough for him to stick. BIG assumption.Safety: Eddie Jackson, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Deon Bush, DeAndre Houston-Carson - EDITED TO ADD (I WAS ONE GUY SHORT) Stephen Denmark - 5As easy of a group to predict as anyPunter: Pat O’Donnell - 1Long Snapper: Patrick Scales - 1Kicker: Eddy Pineiro - 1I like Pineiro’s tape, but this (obviously) is a pure guess. Don’t rule out Robbie Gould just yet, either.Practice Squad Predictions: Ryan Nall, Stephen Denmark, John Franklin III, Isaiah Irving, Joe Lowrey, Sam Mustipher plus 4 others from other teams.Well, if had originally done my late night math right (I didn’t, so I’ve added one more), that’s 53 players. So what do you think, Bears fans? Am I close? Am I dead wrong? Spill the beans! LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears first-year coach Matt Nagy is showing he can take the heat, and it has nothing to do with sultry late August weather at Monday’s practice.Nagy made a controversial call Saturday to sit starters during a preseason game normally used as an opening-day dress rehearsal, and second-guessers have been attacking since the end of a 27-20 Bears victory over Kansas City.“They’re at a point now where the physical part of (practice) is going to continue, but it’s really now you start game-planning,” Nagy said.In part because he wanted to keep players healthy for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at Green Bay, and also because they’ve practiced a week longer than most teams, Nagy decided against a customary tuneup game in the next-to-last preseason game.Starters weren’t available after Saturday’s game since they hadn’t played, but safety Adrian Amos on Monday viewed Nagy’s approach as anything, but half-baked preparation for the start of the regular season.“The plan is always to go out there and execute, to hit the ground running,” Amos said. “It’s not dip your toe in the water or anything like that.”Starters won’t play Thursday in the preseason finale against Buffalo, which is normal procedure.“The focus for them right now is mentally they can finally just say, ‘you know what? I can go all-in on Green Bay and mentally just get prepared Tarik Cohen Jerseys 2019 , soak it up, don’t worry at all about Buffalo,” Nagy said.Nagy’s concern over injuries hit home with players.“It’s a smart decision, seeing that he doesn’t want us to get injured,” running back Tarik Cohen said. “Big season for us. We’re optimistic about how this season is going to turn out. So we want everybody healthy.”Wide receiver Allen Robinson had only to look at former Jacksonville teammate Marqise Lee for an example of what can happen. Lee suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third preseason game Saturday against Atlanta.“Definitely for me, for that being one of my close friends, that was very tough to see,” Robinson said. “Yeah, definitely at the end of the day, like I said before, coach Nagy has the best interests for us players and this team.”Not every player immediately understood the decision.“There were mixed feelings,” Cohen said. “Some people wanted to play, some people needed the time off to heal their bodies and focus in more mentally.”The greatest concern is whether a team lacking experience with Nagy’s offense has logged sufficient game time to make it work.Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has 12 NFL starts and none in this offense, so it’s easy to see how another preseason effort would benefit timing on his passes.“Obviously he’s ready and well prepared,” Robinson said. “We’ve done a really good job throughout the course of camp getting all the reps and stuff that we needed; maybe reps in between periods, getting some reps after periods, and things like that. So I think we’re all real prepared.”Another issue is whether the offensive line and the defense can be physically ready with less full-speed contact than during a normal preseason.Guard Kyle Long called going every day against the Bears defensive line sufficient preparation, even if most training camp work is not full speed.“We’re playing against human beings in practice,” Long said. “And Akiem Hicks is pretty big and strong — you can’t really simulate getting hit by a Mack truck.”Players think the decision indicates something about their new coach’s personality and resolve.“He doesn’t care about what everybody else is going to think,” Cohen said. “He’s just looking out for our best interests and the team’s best interest.“And that’s the type of coach you want on your side.”NOTES: Offensive tackle Bradley Sowell suffered an ankle sprain Saturday. The Bears hadn’t updated his status after he was helped from the field during the game. … Linebacker Roquan Smith continued to be very limited in practice because of hamstring tightness. … The Bears re-arranged their Halas Hall locker grouping in an effort to improve team unity. They formerly grouped players’ lockers together according to roster positions. It’s jumbled now. “The philosophy between that is that you put big guys next to small guys, you put loud guys next to quiet guys, you put leaders next to non-leaders, offense vs. defense, center vs. D tackle,” Nagy said.

For the Chargers, it is no different as there is plenty of speculation as to what the team will do when they are on the clock tomorrow night. Josh Rosen: Smoke or fire? There has been a plethora of whispers the last several weeks about the Chargers as a possible team that would be willing to execute a trade for Arizona Cardinals Quarterback Josh Rosen. On Monday, Adam Schefter reported that the Giants, Chargers and Dolphins are the three “primary” teams in play for the former number one pick. The Cardinals have been holding out for a first round pick in exchange for Rosen, but are unlikely to get that value in return. But rumors began to circulate around the Chargers being interested in parting with their second round pick (60th overall) to acquire Rosen as a developmental QB to mold behind Philip Rivers.Earlier this week Cheap Cortez Broughton Jersey , General Manager Tom Telesco spoke with the Media and had this to say regarding the possibility of Los Angeles making a trade for a potential Rivers’ successor During the free agency period, the Chargers signed Tyrod Taylor to a two-year $11 million deal, giving the team a capable veteran backup. Taylor’s contract is another reason to believe that the Chargers wouldn’t be a serious candidate for Rosen as the team would be taking on an additional cap hit at the QB position on top of giving up draft capital. Time will tell on If the smoke surrounding these rumors has any fire behind it. Moving down?Since he became the GM of the Chargers in 2013, Telesco has had a reputation of keeping the Chargers draft strategy close to the chest. This year, Los Angeles owns the 28th overall selection, which brings a number of different possibilities along with it. One of those options could be to trade out their first round spot and move down to acquire more picks. On Monday, Telesco addressed the possibilities of trading down. The Chargers have not selected this late in the draft since 2007. Depending on how the board falls to them, Los Angeles could be open for business to negotiate with teams looking to get back into the tail end first round. What are the experts saying?Mock drafts have peaked our interest for the last several months. Now with only one day remaining until Draft Day, here are the latest predictions from analysts on what the Chargers will do with their first round selection:CBSSports.com’s Ryan Wilson: DT Dexter Lawrence-Clemson“Don’t be fooled by his 6-foot-4, 342-pound frame” Wilson says.“Dexter Lawrence is an incredible athlete and while first appearance might suggest otherwise, he’s a three-down player. For some perspective on just how versatile he is, during the 2018 season Lawrence ranked fourth in Pro Football Focus’ pass-rush productivity metric and was sixth in run-stop percentage. There’s also this: In Los Angeles White Cortez Broughton Jersey , he’ll be bookended by Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa. Good luck stopping that.”ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.: DT Jeffery Simmons- Mississippi State“I thought the Chargers might target a defensive tackle with the 17th pick last year, but Vita Vea and Daron Payne were both off the board. They ended up with Derwin James, one of the best picks of the entire draft, but still have a need along the interior of their defense. Simmons might not be picked in Round 1. He tore his ACL in February and could redshirt this season. But he’s a top-15 talent, and he’s going to be on my Big Board. And he could be a steal here.”The Draft Network’s Benjamin Solak: OT Dalton Risner-Kansas State“I think Risner is worth a look at tackle where his length and technique both shine” Solak says. “Players with slower feet and less explosiveness than Risner have survived out there, though there is some concern with Risner’s balance when faced with shifty rushers. Either way, love his energy and tone-setting aggression.”NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah: CB Rock Ya-Sin -Temple“There are other needs here -- safety and defensive tackle among them -- but it was apparent that the Bolts need to add some talent on the outside based on their performance against the Patriots in the Divisional Round of last season’s playoffs.”Pro Football Focus’ Steve Palazzolo: S Nasir Adderley-Delaware“The Chargers are strong all-around defensively, but Adderley adds a true free safety to pair with strong safety Derwin James. Adderley has incredible range and ball skills on the back end, evidenced by his 89.9 coverage grade, six pass breakups and five interceptions last season. Adderley and James are perfect for their respective roles and one of the best young safety duos in the game.”USA Today’s DraftWire’s Luke Easterling: CB Byron Murphy-Washington“There are bigger needs elsewhere on the roster, but the Bolts need to pounce on the value here. Murphy is the most complete corner in this year’s class, despite concerns about his lack of size or speed.”The Draft Network’s Trevor Sikkema: DT Jerry Tillery-Notre Dame“The Chargers need some new blood on that interior defensive line” Sikkema says.“They have Bosa and Ingram on the edges Youth Justin Jones Jerseys , but they’re not getting enough pass rush from their inside guys, at least if you ask me. Tillery’s stock is rising, but there is still a chance he could be available here. If the Chargers can get their hands on him, he’d become an instant starter. He would give Los Angeles a 3-tech pass rush threat next to Brandon Mebane.” Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was out for the second straight game, due to an MCL sprain in his right knee.Austin Ekeler started in place of Gordon on Sunday against Cincinnati, with rookie Justin Jackson, who gained 62 yards during the second half of last week’s comeback win at Pittsburgh, slated for plenty of playing time. The Chargers were without nose tackle Brandon Mebane for a third straight game, as he cares for his newborn daughter. The visiting Bengals were missing two key starters on defense: cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (ankle) and linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion). In other Week 14 lineup news around the league:— With James Conner out for Pittsburgh because of an ankle injury, Jaylen Samuels and Stevan Ridley were in line for the bulk of the work in the backfield for the Steelers against Oakland.— San Francisco is missing two key skill-position players, running back Matt Breida (ankle) and wide receiver Pierre Garcon (knee), against Denver. The Broncos lost cornerback Chris Harris Jr. (broken leg) and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (ruptured Achilles tendon) to major injuries last week.— The depleted Arizona wide receiver group got thinner with the loss of Chad Williams Youth Mike Pouncey Jerseys , who aggravated a hamstring injury late in the week and was inactive for the game against Detroit.— Dallas left tackle Tyron Smith was active for a key NFC East showdown against Philadelphia, after missing the previous two games with a neck issue. The first- Cowboys, however, held linebacker Sean Lee out for a fifth straight week with a hamstring injury. Eagles defensive tackle Tim Jernigan was inactive again with a back issue after being listed as questionable on the injury report. Jernigan has played just one game this season, two weeks ago. From the earlier games:— Miami’s Danny Amendola played against New England, his former team, after sitting out the last game because of a knee injury.— Baltimore put quarterback Joe Flacco on the inactive list for the fourth straight game, despite his return to practice this week with the expectation he would serve as Lamar Jackson’s backup at Kansas City. Instead, Flacco rested his hip injury with Robert Griffin III as the second-stringer behind Jackson.— The New York Giants traveled to Washington without star receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who stayed home with a quadriceps injury. The Redskins were in worse shape, with guard Tony Bergstrom (knee/ankle) the latest offensive lineman to be sidelined— Green Bay was down three starters on the offensive line against Atlanta: left guard Lane Taylor (foot), right guard Byron Bell (knee) and right tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee/illness).— Indianapolis had T.Y. Hilton suited up against Houston Mike Pouncey Jerseys Stitched , despite a shoulder injury that kept him out of practices this week, but fellow wide receiver Dontrelle Inman was out with a shoulder injury.— Carolina played at Cleveland without kicker Graham Gano, whose knee injury forced the Panthers to sign replacement Chandler Catanzaro, kicked a 59-yard field goal to beat the Browns in overtime earlier this season for Tampa Bay. Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward remained in concussion protocol after getting hurt last week, with Terrance Mitchell activated to make his first start after missing eight games with a broken right wrist.— Sam Darnold returned for the New York Jets after a three-game absence because of a foot injury, setting up a matchup of first-round draft pick quarterbacks in Buffalo against Josh Allen. The Jets had running back Isaiah Crowell (toe) and wide receiver Robby Anderson (ankle) back. They were questionable on the injury report.

Womens Bradley Chubb Jersey , new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio declined to talk about reports that Gary Kubiak would be the team’s offensive coordinator because nothing had been finalized yet. That allows Fangio to avoid any backtracking on Friday. While General Manager John Elway talked about Kubiak staying in the organization as if it was a done deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Kubiak will not be on Fangio’s staff and will be leaving the team.Per the report, talks broke down over differences regarding staffing and offensive philosophies. The news comes shortly after word that the Broncos are trying to add Mike Munchak to their staff after interviewing him for their head coaching job. Mike Klis of KUSA confirmed that Kubiak is leaving the team and reports that Munchak is under consideration as an offensive line coach rather than offensive coordinator. A report on Monday indicated that Broncos General Manager John Elway met with former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan last year to discuss a return to the sideline in Denver. That would have meant Vance Joseph’s departure after one year on the job Womens John Elway Jersey , but he wound up back for a second season after CEO Joe Ellis said the team would have to conduct a full search rather than just handing the job to Shanahan. At his Monday press conference, Joseph said the report “didn’t move me at all” and that his focus is on Monday night’s game against the Raiders.“That’s the least of my concerns,” Joseph said Bradley Chubb Broncos Jersey , via Nicki Jhabvala of . “People have written much worse things about me. … I’m not concerned about an article.”Joseph also said he “absolutely” believes he has the support of Broncos management. We’ll find out if Joseph’s read is an accurate one in a couple of weeks, but two years without a trip to the playoffs may not serve him well.

was mostly positive on Thursday Antonio Brown Jersey , it seems there is still one key name to worry about with just one day of practice remaining before the game against the Cleveland Browns. Marcus Gilbert missed his second consecutive day of training with a knee injury and his status for Sunday is looking increasingly doubtful. If he cannot take part in practice on Friday, it should be expected that Matt Feiler would play in his place against Cleveland. After Maurkice Pouncey was the beneficiary of his customary veteran rest day on Wednesday, it was the turn of Ramon Foster to take his on Thursday. Meanwhile, back-to-back days as full participants in training for Morgan Burnett and L.J. Fort was an encouraging sign that both could suit up in Week 8. For the safety who has barely been able to workout since Week 2, just being healthy enough to practice fully for two days in a row was a blessing, as he told Teresa Varley of Steelers.com. There was more good news to be had with the return of Darrius Heyward-Bey and Xavier Grimble after they were both limited the day before. With Grimble seemingly recovering quickly from a suspected concussion Greg Lloyd Jersey , the reserve tight end has a good chance of playing this weekend. For Heyward-Bey, the bye-week could not have come at a better time, and if all goes well, he might not miss his third game of the season in Week 8 after all. By comparison, Cleveland’s injury report looked a little bit more extensive on Thursday, with current starting cornerback E.J. Gaines among the more notable names struggling to be ready in time to face the Steelers. DeMarcus Lawrence is undergoing shoulder surgery this week Kevin Greene Jersey , having held out until he got a new deal. But the Cowboys defensive end, who signed his $105 million deal on Tuesday, had no plans to pull a Le'Veon Bell and sit out the season in the absence of a long-term agreement before the July 15 deadline.“You ain’t got to worry about that. It wasn’t going to be a Le’Veon situation. I ain’t skipping $20 million for nobody,” Lawrence said at a press conference, via NFL Media.Bell sat out last season after the Steelers used the franchise tag on him a second consecutive year, forgoing $14.5 million. He signed with the Jets this offseason.Lawrence was set to make $20.5 million this season under a second franchise tag. He was expected to sit out the offseason program without a long-term deal Lynn Swann Jersey , but it was uncertain whether he would skip training camp and/or all or part of the season. It no longer matters as the Cowboys made Lawrence the highest-paid player in their history.“The contract is a big accomplishment, but my goal is still to get a [Pro Football Hall of Fame] gold jacket,” Lawrence said.

that sealed the team’s postseason fate Von Miller Jersey White , the crew at First and 10 @ 10 on Orange and Blue Radio considered whether it is important (to fans) for the Broncos to avoid a losing season and finish 8-8 or if losing for a better draft position might ultimately be better for the team. And this morphed into a much more interesting conversation about what the road map should be for the Broncos’ addressing the quarterback situation down the road.Case Keenum is about to finish a very mediocre - some would say sub-par - first season of a two-year contract. Given his salary and cap hit, it’s highly unlikely the Broncos do anything to unload Keenum in the offseason. But after a game in which Keenum led the offense to just one touchdown (and a total of 16 points, one shy of the win) but also threw two interceptions, it is clear No. 4 is not the long-term answer - and may not even finish the 2019 season as the starter if a better young prospect could come along. So what do the Broncos do in the 2019 Draft? The 2020 Draft? Free agency in 2020?The way Andrew Mason sees it (check out the 15-minute mark of the broadcast), a good approach for the Broncos would be to find a quarterback in the second or third round of the 2019 Draft - like Duke’s David Jones or NC State’s Ryan Finley - and see how he might develop behind Keenum next year. And maybe if Keenum has a very average or below average year, the rookie gets the reins. Listen to "Podcast 1st and 10 12-17-18 HOUR 1" on Spreaker.“Get them in your building, see how they’re coming along in practice and preseason, maybe they get an opportunity later on, and if they end up being the guy that shows signs of being one of those outstanding quarterbacks down the line, then you don’t have to pick a quarterback in 2020,” Mason noted. “But if they don’t show that ceiling, then you haven’t wasted too much in draft capital, you used a second day pick but then you’re still free to pick ‘that guy’ in 2020.”Mason used Seahawks’ Russell Wilson as an example. Seattle had planned to make Matt Flynn the starting QB in 2012. And when the Seahawks came to Denver for a preseason game, Wilson played the entire second half and showed enough for coaches to deem him the starter.“He ends up being beyond anyone’s expectations and seizes the job,” Mason added. “But if he hadn’t developed, the Seahawks would have just picked another young quarterback down the line.”That approach seems to be the right one for the Broncos, Mase argues, saying the main thing is that it’s “important to have as many options as possible when planning for both short and long term.” “Because for all the questions around the organization right now, the long-term quarterback answer is question No.1,” Mason said. “That’s the question you have to answer, and you can overcommit resources until you get that answer.”I like Mase’s thinking because so far the quarterback class in 2019 is not looking outstanding - or at least the few good ones within the Broncos’ reach - and the Broncos have some other needs on defense that could be a good use of the first-round pick (and if you want to suggest trading Von Miller for a QB, don’t even talk to me). Looking for a potential gem on Day 2 of the draft who could either turn out to be brilliant or just “ok” would at least let the Broncos know if they must go after a QB in 2020.But I’m curious how you would advise John Elway on the QB situation for the short or long term? And as my good friend Larry Dyer III at “Bears Talk Underground” reminded me, “Fangio could give zero F’s what you think of what he’s doing.”Jess Place, Tim Lynch and I talked about this on our podcast this week - Fangio’s approach is genuine - and it is such a relief.Because this time of year, as Broncos fans Royce Freeman Jersey , we tend to get very optimistic about our team’s chances. The good, bad and ugly of the previous season has mostly disappeared, and the promise of a new season with a new approach, better scheme, good players added is staring us down, begging us to believe in a playoff-bound, ass-kicking team with a new QB who will take us to the Promise Land.As Mancar noted, “the great thing about football is the rebirth of positivity and hype every year.”But for the first time since Gary Kubiak became head coach in 2015 (and before that, who knows) - the excitement actually feels believable. Like, it’s not just the Kool-Aid; the team is actually good.Because Fangio is getting it done, and it’s already noticeable in the attitudes of players - from not wanting to be the idiot whose screwup on the field is watched by everyone on film to believing they all have to earn their spot on the roster, no matter what their name is.Ed Donatell, defensive coordinator who has worked with Fangio for years, said this is exactly who Fangio has always been.“He really has never changed very much in eight years,” Donatell said. “It’s just what I thought it would be when he took over as the head coach. He’s really into the game management part of it and the details and the little things and that’s showing up in our football team.”Rich Scangarello, a first-time offensive coordinator, said it has been exciting being part of “Vic’s plan” because of the details he worries about - and therefore prepares for - in situational football.“He’s going to force the players and the coaches into uncomfortable situations that remind them of game day,” Scangarello said. “With that comes the task of thinking fast and putting guys in positions to make plays, and them having to think on their own on the field. ...I’m really excited about it and the guys have embraced it. I think it’s made us a better team.”I certainly think so, but you can think what you want.Either way, Fangio will give zero Fs what either of us thinks and just continue to coach football.Horse Tracks - docllv’s picks of the dayNotes from Broncos minicamp, Day 2Joe Flacco and Courtland Sutton connected for multiple touchdowns ... and game management and situational football continued to be at the heart of the team’s on-field work.Observations from Day 1 of Broncos mandatory minicamp – The AthleticJoe Flacco shows off his "cannon" for an arm, Vic Fangio sees improvement in Von Miller and much more.Horse TracksManning Men Visit Broncos During Day 2 Of Mini-Camp – CBS DenverDenver's "sheriff" made an appearance at the Broncos' mini-camp on Wednesday.Denver Broncos: Archie and Peyton Manning attended practice WednesdayArchie and Peyton Manning watched the Broncos' second minicamp practice of 2019 in person.Denver Broncos: Drew Lock ‘slowly making strides’ at minicamp practiceBroncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock is on the right track.Scangarello: Lindsay is 'one of the more dynamic players' in NFLRich Scangarello can't wait to unleash Phillip Lindsay in the Broncos' offense.Broncos RB Lindsay (wrist) to be ready for campBroncos coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that running back Phillip Lindsay, who is recovering from right wrist surgery, will be ready for full participation when training camp begins next month.Leaving a legacy: An inside look at how Von Miller is putting his stamp on NFL history via his Pass Rush SummitIf Las Vegas is an oasis in the midst of a desert, Miller’s third annual Pass Rush Summit may be the lone haven for defenders looking to make an impact in an increasingly offensively minded league.Instant chemistry over cauliflower sold Gerald McCoy on Panthers - Carolina Panthers Blog- ESPNThe fellowship that Gerald McCoy felt with Panthers players over a vegan lunch last week put Carolina over the top.Broncos' Ron Leary glad to be back at his preferred right guard position, and more from Day 2 of minicampRon Leary said Wednesday he is back at home as the Broncos’ right guard, debunking the belief that left guard was his preferred position.Ron Leary has 'no restrictions' in practice, Phillip Lindsay set to return for training camp“I feel like I’m very close,” Lindsay said.Denver Broncos news: NFL announces finalized 2019 preseason scheduleWe now know the dates and times for all of the Broncos' 2019 preseason games.

Football has the shortest regular season of any professional sport, and the league has consistently looked to make the regular season longer. Hockey, baseball and basketball have seasons that last well over half a year, while football is a mere four months long.To that end, the NFL owners seem to have proposed something to the NFL Player’s Union that would lengthen the season without giving them any more actual games to play.Perhaps you’ve watched in dismay as a basketball game is played in your area only to find one of the team’s stars is sitting with a DNP- Load Management. The NBA season is long and grueling, and the Spurs became known for sitting their star players in irrelevant games to keep them fresh for the playoffs. That practice has since spread to other teams, and in baseball it has always been the policy to give players a day off here and there since they play almost every day.Football, however, is an entirely different animal. Imagine a quarterback playing without his star left tackle or best interior lineman. With a move like this Derrick Johnson Jersey , star players are even more at risk. Or imagine paying good money to see a football game only to find out you’ll be watching the backup quarterback today. The quality of the product as a whole would be seriously underwhelming, akin to a preseason game. The owners usually get what they want, but the league already has problems stemming from having too many players hurt all the time. If the owners wanted this, they’d have to expand the rosters considerably and add a few dozen roster spots. Cutdown day after training camp would be way less painful than it used to be, but that also means more fringe players making a pro roster.Imagine being a TV network like Fox and you have a Seahawks vs. Rams game on the schedule. That should bring in a ton of viewers! Whoops, no, it’s Geno Smith vs. Blake Bortles today. Everyone turns the channel to CBS to watch Tom Brady vs. Sam Darnold. Fox cries into their Cheerios. The teams already play 20 games in a regular season. Four of them are preseason exhibitions which cost the same for fans as regular season games. If owners are hell bent on playing 18 regular season games, why not add a second bye week? Or, cut out two preseason games and expand the roster to 75 players. How much film do you need? Maybe guys like Keon Hatcher, who earned a roster spot based on the fourth preseason game, would object, but with an expanded roster it probably wouldn’t matter in the end.If there’s one thing the NFL does well, it’s sacrificing the well-being of its players on the altar of cash-grabbing, and frankly that’s the sort of thing a strong union exists to prevent. More football is always a good thing Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Jersey , but this is a monumentally stupid idea as it is. Ryan Grant‘s free agency was a lot quieter this year than last year, but he has found his new team, in Oakland. The Raiders have signed Grant, a wide receiver who spent last year in Indianapolis, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.Last year Grant signed a four-year, $29 million contract with the Ravens, a contract that was immediately met with derision because Grant’s career up to that point — four years as a backup in Washington — wouldn’t seem to justify that kind of contract. Then the contract was voided when the Ravens announced that Grant had failed his physical because of an ankle injury. After that Grant couldn’t find anything close to that kind of market, and he ended up signing a one-year, $5 million deal. He finished the season with 35 catches for 334 yards and one touchdown.Michael Gehlken of the reports that Grant can earn a maximum of $2.5 million this season from the Raiders, and only if he hits incentives. Suffice to say he’s never going to get back the money he missed out on in Baltimore. In Oakland he joins a receiving corps that includes three other newcomers: Antonio, Tyrell Williams and JJ Nelson.

He can struggle with maintaining top speed in traffic, and takes some time to work up to his second gear. There were concerns that he wasn’t very fast, but he ran a 4.4 at his Pro Day so he is plenty fast once he gets going. However, he does struggle to separate at the top of his routes, and his success came against lower-level competition.VerdictKeelan Doss has been a tremendously productive receiver for three seasons with the UC Davis Aggies, accumulating over 4,000 receiving yards and 28 TDs. He has all the traits and intangibles that one likes to see in a receiver prospect, and was considered a fifth-round draft prospect going into April. However, a pectoral injury suffered at the Combine not only kept him from doing all the receiver drills, it also likely knocked him out of the Draft entirely. The league is planning a season-long celebration of its success and commitment to not knowing what a catch is, and part of that is the Games of the Week. Each week during the upcoming season, the NFL will designate one game its 100th Anniversary Game of the Week, and it will be a game with some historical significance to the history of the NFL. It may be a long-standing rivalry like Week 1’s game featuring the Packers vs. Bears or Week 10’s Falcons-Saints game or Week 14’s Browns vs. Bengals Battle of Ohio tilt. The Raiders have a total of three games on the NFL100 Game of the Week list, which is great, but is made doubly sweet because the Steelers don’t have any.The first NFL100 Game of the Week featuring the Raiders comes in Week 7, in which the Raiders travel to Lambeau Field in a rematch of Super Bowl 2. NFL.com says this:“Two of the league’s storied franchises met in Super Bowl II, which saw the Packers win a second straight championship by soundly defeating the Raiders, 33-14.”The Packers actually have another Game of the Week the following week when they go to Kansas City to rehash Super Bowl 1. Hopefully they trash the Chiefs this year too.In Week 12, the Raiders travel to New York for their second NFL100 game, taking on the Jets in a rematch of the Heidi Game which forever changed the rules of broadcasting. NFL.com says,“Perhaps a sign of the times, but what happened on Nov. 17, 1968, when the game was cut off on the East Coast to show the film “Heidi” isn’t likely to ever happen again.”And finally, the Raiders’ third NFL100 game takes place Week 16 in Los Angeles, where the Raiders will pay homage to the Holy Roller game, in which the Raiders used the fumble as an offensive weapon.“The Raiders and Chargers produced the “Holy Roller” game in 1978 and the result forever changed the NFL’s rule on an offense’s ability to advance recovered fumbles. In the contest, Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler avoided a sack by throwing the football forward towards the goal line. Running back Pete Banasnak touched the ball, then used both hands to shove the football forward. Tight end Dave Casper then recovered the football in the end zone to give the Raiders a 21-20 win.”I think this is a pretty cool idea by the league, which has had more than its share of huge games, big rivalries and revolutionary moments in its 100-year history. And hey, the Raiders won two of the three games they’re being honored for playing in in dramatic and totally improbable ways, so that’s a plus. So which of these three games do you think was most important in league history, and which is your favorite? Are there any other important Raider moments you would have liked to see included that involve teams on this year’s schedule?

Shane Ray Jersey , Vic Fangio has spent 19 seasons as an NFL defensive coordinator starting with his stint as the first ever defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. He was also the first ever defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. That being said, I think there is much we can learn from not only how his defenses have performed, but from the production that he has gotten from his defensive players. Much like Wade Phillips, Vic Fangio, as a defensive coordinator likes to adapt his scheme to fit his players, not the other way around. He should be able to get the most out of Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Derek Wolfe and (even) Demarcus Walker. It is widely reported that the Broncos and Vic Fangio want Ed Donatell to the be defensive coordinator. That would make sense as Donatell has followed Fangio to San Fransisco and then to Chicago. For him to follow Fangio to Denver makes all the sense in the world. It also stands to reason that if Ed is running the defense then the defense will be the same defense that Vic would be running if he were the defensive coordinator. THis could end up with something like what Andy Reid does in KC where he is not the offensive coordinator, but he really is the offensive coordinator. For those who might remember the name, Ed Donatell, he was the defensive backs coach for the Broncos in 2009 and 2010. That 2010 defense was one of the worst in the history of the NFL (I’m not exaggerating, I remember writing about this back in 2010 when I was just a reader and fanpost contributor here). Of course, Ed was also our DB coach for five years in the late 90s including for our back-to-back Super Bowl winning teams. So how have Fangio’s defenses done statistically during his 19 seasons as a defensive coordinator. Here is a table that is pulled directly from pro-football-reference.com.Firstly, there is plenty to digest in this table. Focus on the column labelled Pts. He has had five different stops: Carolina, Indianapolis, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago. He built a defense in Carolina through the expansion draft and the regular draft that was 8th in points allowed in its first season and 2nd in points allowed in its second season. The 1996 Panthers team made it to (and lost in) the NFC championship game. His defenses got progressively worse in his 3rd and 4th years in Carolina, finishing 13th in points in 1997 and 27th in points in 1998. After getting let go from the Panthers, Fangio landed the DC position with the Colts under Jim Mora. In 1999, the Colts defense was good enough to allow a young #1 draft pick QB by the name of Peyton Manning to the lead the team to a 13-3 record. That defense was good enough to allow the Colts to lose a heart-breaker to the Titans (19-16) in the divisional round. The Titans would go on to play in their one and only super bowl that year, losing a heart-breaker to the Rams. The Colts defense in 2000 was comparable to their 1999 defense, but the Colts would only finish 10-6 and lose in the wild card round to the Dolphins. The 2001 Colts defense was terrible, finishing second to last in past allowed. The Colts would finished 6-10 leading to the firing of Jim Mora and the loss of a DC job for Fangio. After Indy Fangio moved on to the Texans where he had the task of building the Texans defense from the ground up much like he had with the Panthers. However, he was not able to replicate the immediate success that he found with the Panthers defense. In fact his defenses in Houston never ranked better than 15th in points allowed and the Texans never finished better than 7-9 while he was the DC there. After finished 2-14 in the 2005 season, Dom Capers was fired as the head coach and Vic was again out of work. His next stop would take him to Baltimore where he would get to coach the linebackers and Ray Lewis in his prime. In his four years with the Ravens as LB coach, their defense would finish 1st, 22nd, 3rd and 3rd in points allowed and make the playoffs three out of four years. The one year they didn’t was the year the both Ed Reed and Ray Lewis got hurt. In 2010 Jim Harbaugh, whose brother John was on the coaching staff in Baltimore with Vic, would convince Vic to move with him to Northern California to be the defensive coordinator for the Stanford Cardinal (notice that is singular since it is a color, not a bird). That Stanford team would finish 12-1 overall Justin Simmons Jersey , 4th in the country and win both the Pac-10 and the Orange Bowl. Fangio would make very good use of an extremely intelligent tall CB named Richard Sherman who was very quick but not very fast. You might have heard of him. Other than Sherman, Fangio had very little in the way of NFL-level talent on his defense. Stanford would have only one other defensive player who played under Fangio drafted, Sione Fua, who spent some time with the Broncos. Jim Harbaugh would then get hired away by the 49ers and ask Vic to make the move with him back to the NFL. Fangio was the DC for the 49ers from 2011-2014. His defenses in San Francisco were great. The 49ers were 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 10th in points allowed during Vic’s four seasons there. Those defenses were led by two dynamic ILBs in Navarro Bowman and Patrick Willis - both of whom were AllPro in 2011 and 2012. Bowman was named 1st team AllPro in 2013 as well. The 2014 defense that only finished 10th in points allowed had neither Bowman or Willis. The 2014 season would be the season where the 49ers locker room imploded forcing the firing of Jim Harbaugh and the loss of a job for Vic. So this brings us to Chicago where Vic was most recently as the defensive coordinator. His defenses were in the bottom third of the league in points allowed for the first two seasons in Chicago but then improved to 9th in 2017 and 1st overall in 2018. It definitely helped for the Bears to get overrated OLB, Khalil Mack from the Faiders, but Fangio had been doing a good job of developing the defensive talent that they have been drafting during the previous three seasons. From 2015-2018 the Bears did a good job of finding starters for their defense in the draft. In 2018, six of their 11 starters (7 of 12 if you count their CB3) on defense were drafted by the them (or signed as UDCFA and developed). The other starters were good free agent signings (Akiem Hicks, Danny Trevathan, Prince Amukamara) or via trade (Mack). It would appear to me that we can expect a return to dominant defense if history is to be our guide. I would also not be surprised (assuming Fangio has significant input into the draft) to see the Broncos using a high draft pick on a speedy ILB/MLB like Roquan Smith. Who are the best players available for the Denver Broncos on Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft? Christopher Hart updates his remaining Big Board and shares his thoughts."It’s never a dull moment covering the 2019 NFL Draft and the Denver Broncos made several moves on the first day that had all of Broncos Country at the edge of their seat. To start off their evening, they acquired an extra second-round selection (#52 overall) and a future third round selection from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who traded up for Michigan linebacker Devin Bush. After dropping own to the twentieth overall selection, the franchise selected high-profile tight end Noah Fant, giving them a dynamic weapon at the position they haven’t had in half a decade. (ICYMI — here is my scouting report on Fant.)After the first round was in the books, twenty-three prospects in my top thirty-two went in the first round. Six others who ended up going on the first day were ranked thirty-three through forty-two respectively, with only three players outside the the top fifty going in the first. So who are the best players from my board that still remain and which of them could be favorites to land with the Broncos tomorrow evening? Let’s take a look.Hart’s Best Players Available for Day 219. Jawaan Taylor, OT — FloridaThe reason Taylor is still available is simple — there are medical concerns with his knee according to various reports. I’m not big on taking prospects with injury risks high in the draft, so I’d hope the Broncos would pass on him given that issue.21. Byron Murphy, CB — WashingtonIf the Broncos somehow ended up with Murphy in the second round I’d be absolutely elated. He is a tremendous fit for Vic Fangio’s defense and is one of the ‘stickiest’ corners in the draft. When you factor in the Chris Harris Jr. situation — it’s quite clear Denver needs to find themselves another cornerback.23. Drew Lock, QB — MissouriI’m not too surprised that Lock slid out of the first round. His mechanics are a mess (especially his footwork) which has a negative impact on his overall accuracy. However, his potential and talent may be too good for the Broncos to pass up if he is on the clock at #41 overall. Kevin Hogan and Garrett Grayson aren’t quality back-up material and they aren’t guys you want starting at any point ever.24. Greedy Williams, CB — LSUWilliams isn’t the best fit for the Broncos’ defense, but you he has traits you can’t teach and if he puts it all together and improves upon his tackling he could be a quality boundary corner in the National Football League. Those are two big ifs but in the second round the risk is worth the reward.26. Dalton Risner, OL — Kansas StateThe Broncos like Risner and if available he would be an obvious choice for the franchise considering they have significant needs long-term on the interior. His ability to play four spots (everything but left tackle) only adds to his value. Don’t be surprised if he is one of the prospects Denver selects on Day 2.28. Nasir Adderley, S — DelawareWill Parks and Justin Simmons are both free agents after the end of next season. While I envision one of them receiving a contract extension, I’m not sure both do. Adderley is a ball-hawking defensive back who forces a lot of turnovers. He would be a dark horse pick for sure but a great value selection nevertheless.29. D.K. Metcalf, WR — Ole MissThe Broncos drafted Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton in last year’s draft and added a dynamic tight end in Fant to their roster yesterday evening. Could you imagine the Broncos’ offense with Metcalf added into the mix? Good luck to opposing secondaries if that happens.30. Cody Ford, OT — OklahomaMike Munchak is one of the best in the business at coaching up offensive lineman and Ford has a tremendous amount of athleticism for a man his size. His best fit might be at offensive guard and the Broncos do have a need there.32. Rock Ya-Sin, CB — TempleThe aforementioned Murphy and Williams are still available, but Ya-Sin is a rock solid corner who can compete for snaps immediately. His physicality and strong tackling line up with the aggressive attitude of Fangio’s defense. The Remainder of Hart’s Top 10035. Irv Smith Jr. Adam Gotsis Jersey , TE — Alabama39. A.J. PITTSBURGH (AP) —  on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The longtime head coach is not ruling it out either. The star wide receiver went radio silent in the days before the team’s regular-season finale against Cincinnati last Sunday Hines Ward Jersey , in essence abandoning the club in what Tomlin described as its “darkest hour.”Though Brown did make a cameo appearance on the sideline — rocking a fur coat — as the Steelers edged the Bengals , he vanished before the final gun and did not show up on Monday for exit interviews and to clear out his locker.Tomlin said Brown arrived at practice last Wednesday reporting discomfort in his lower body. The team gave Brown the day off, did so again on Thursday. On Friday, Tomlin sent Brown home to rest and suggested he get an MRI on the banged up knee.Tomlin did not hear from Brown on Saturday to get an update. When Drew Rosenhaus, Brown’s agent, reached out on Sunday morning to tell Tomlin that Brown was available to play, Tomlin “drew a line in the sand” and said Brown could best serve the Steelers by cheering on the sideline. While Tomlin demurred when asked during his season-ending news conference on Wednesday if Brown “quit,” the longtime head coach offered little in defense of the perennial Pro Bowler, whose historic production has become increasingly at odds with his erratic off-the-field behavior.“The bottom line is we were playing a significant game and he didn’t do a good enough job of communicating of being available in the hours leading up to that performance,” Tomlin said.“So we needed to make decisions pertinent to getting to play in that performance. So, I’ve been real clear at outlining what transpired Heath Miller Jersey , the level of communication, things of that nature. Obviously there are some things within that that you can infer, certainly.”Rather than spend time elaborating on how the Steelers went from 7-2-1 the week before Thanksgiving to 9-6-1 and missing the postseason for the first time since 2013 — a collapse Tomlin plans to “wallow” in over the next few weeks — he spent the majority of his time responding to questions about Brown. It’s nothing new. The 30-year-old is the only player in NFL history with six straight 100-catch seasons, but has become adept at drawing headlines for things that have nothing to do with football, be it livestreaming from the postgame locker room in Kansas City two years ago to threatening a reporter from ESPN on social media in September to suggesting on Twitter he should be traded .It hasn’t stopped. As Tomlin spoke, Brown — who has three years remaining on his four-year, $72 million extension he signed in the spring of 2017 — published a post on Instagram to his 3.1 million followers saying “I am divinely blessed with free will. I utilize that gift, choosing to take charge of my life.” Brown also appeared with former teammate James Harrison, who promised an exclusive “interview” with Brown.Tomlin has long had a policy of trying to tune out what his players say or do on social media, but admitted there’s a level of “disappointment” when it comes to Brown’s actions before adding it’s immaterial to his job.Asked if there’s a point with Brown or any player where the distractions can outweigh the on-the-field benefits, Tomlin said “certainly.”Whether the Steelers are at that point is unclear. Tomlin said the team has not received any “formal” trade requests from Brown’s camp.Tomlin declined to get into what punishment Brown may face in the future Louis Lipps Jersey , saying the club is still gathering information. Tomlin does believe that Brown was dealing with some type of injury, but added to his knowledge that Brown has not undergone the MRI.“Like we do in all circumstances, we will deal with it appropriately and deal with it in-house,” Tomlin said.Brown’s future status is just one of a number of questions the Steelers will face over the next few months, starting with the coaching staff. The defense and special teams both had critical missteps this season and offensive line coach Mike Munchak is in the mix for several open head coaching positions.“When you lack success, when you fail, change is a part of it,” Tomlin said. “We talk about it. As a staff we talk about it. As players, in exit meetings. That’s just our business.”So lately, has been addressing the perpetual drama surrounding one of the NFL’s most talented and mercurial players. Several people have asked if we could bring back the Friday Night Open Thread. I had moved the event to Saturday morning, but after minimal success John Stallworth Jersey , I decided to bring it back to Friday night — with a slight twist.I liked the Saturday Six-Pack theme, so I decided to just take the six questions and move them to Friday night. Say hello to Friday Night Six-Pack of Steelers Questions and open thread! The rules haven’t changed...Quick rundown of the ground rules.I’ll ask at least four questions strictly related to the Steelers. The rest of the questions could be about anything.Be respectful.Have fun talking about the Black-and-gold.That’s it! With that out of the way, it’s time to get this party started. Hey, don’t act like you’ve never done a little Friday night drinking. Here goes:1. Who wins the following games:Cleveland @ Tampa BayNew Orleans @ BaltimoreCincinnati @ Kansas City2. Are you now a believer in the Steelers? If not, explain what would need to take place before you believe again. 3. OVER/UNDER number of TD passes Patrick Mahomes has vs. the Bengals: 34. Predict the winner of the Steelers’ next three games:Week 8 - vs. ClevelandWeek 9 - at BaltimoreWeek 10 - vs. Carolina (TNF)5. Clearly fines don’t change Vontaze Burfict’s behavior. If you were Roger Goodell, and try to be as unbiased as possible, what would your punishment for Burfict be? Explain your reasoning.6. The trade deadline is looming. If you were to draw up a REALISTIC trade, who would be coming and going? No matter what, always remember...HERE WE GO STEELERS!PODCASTS

News Deshazor Everett Jersey , links to articles, updates and more from DC area writers and national sports journalists"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Looks Like Someone Has A Sixpack Of The MondaysDaily SlopRedskins RecapsDC area writers and national sports journalistsEDTShareTweetShareShareThe Daily Twitter: 13 April 2019Geoff Burke-USA TODAY SportsThe Daily Twitter will be posted at the beginning of every day (at midnight in Washington, DC). The goal is to give readers a handy spot to check the Redskins beat writers & bloggers, and national sports journalists to keep up on the latest news about the Redskins, the NFL, and sports in general, along with a sprinkling of other stuff.NFL News twitter feed:Tweets from https://twitter.com/HunterLoganX/lists/nfl-rumors-and-reportersRedskins twitter feed:Tweets from https://twitter.com/HunterLoganX/lists/beat-writersAn under-the-radar Redskin: LB Dadi Nicolas I saw the press release when it was sent out; I even copied it and pasted it into a comment somewhere on Hogs Haven at the time:I didn’t pay much attention to it.The bottom-of-the-roster churn during training camp usually doesn’t mean much to me — the 90th guy on the roster being changed out seems hardly noteworthy once camp is underway.(Heck, we’ve had two other roster moves since this one was announced — the team added LB Cassanova McKinzy & DL Dante Sawyer and cut LB Alex McAlister & DL Tavaris Barnes.)But during the game against the Patriots, the radio crew of Larry Michaels, Chris Cooley and Doc Walker highlighted that Dadi Nicolas was in the game in the first half, and mentioned that he was another Va Tech alumnus. He made a couple of notable plays during the game, which got me intrigued.Who is this guy?Well Sammy Baugh Jersey , it turns out that this isn’t his first NFL rodeo, so to speak.BackgroundNicolas is yet another NFL player who was born in Haiti, but grew up in the U.S., in Florida. He only started playing football as a high school senior, and then enrolled at Virginia Tech.Following a redshirt freshman year, he played in 10 games as a sophomore, but started every game in his junior year.He lost a lot of his senior year to a broken left hand, but was projected as a late round pick for the draft. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 6th round of the 2016 draft.MeasurablesWhat happened at Kansas City?Nicolas, who might’ve been seen as a practice squad candidate, was actually active for 11 games that season, though his only entry into the stat sheet was a pass defended.Arrowhead Pride described his role on the team in 2016 this way:At the end of the season, he was seriously injured Earnest Byner Jersey , and was placed on injured reserve on January 4, 2017 after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon. The article and comments on the Arrowhead Pride website generally reflect that fans had high hopes for his development, and — while his 2016 contributions wouldn’t necessarily be hard to replace — they saw him as a player with the ability to grow into a consistent contributor from the linebacker position.Going into the 2017 season, Nicolas was placed on the physically unable to perform list, and didn’t see the field during the season. In May this year, just over three months ago, Nicolas’ former GM, John Dorsey tried to acquire him for the Browns, according to NFL.com.However two days later, the trade was called off and voided without an explanation given from either team. Nicolas was waived by the Chiefs days later. From there, as a new free agent, Nicolas signed with the Seattle Seahawks in May only to later be released that same month.Dadi becomes a RedskinAs we’ve already seen Dustin Hopkins Jersey , the Redskins announced on the 1st of August that Nicolas had been signed.Early reports gave a concise summary of Big Dadi’s career to date:How does he fit on the team?Nicolas appears to be a good, if low-key signing by the Redskins. He’s a versatile linebacker who is still developing his game, and who appears to have decent pass rush skills. He is an experienced special-teamer, and, with just 13 NFL games on his resume, can be stashed on the practice squad to continue his development and provide protection against late-season injuries.I looked through the play-by-play for the first pre-season game againt New England (which just ended) and counted Nicolas as being credited with 3 tackles. He seemed to me to play pretty well, though I’m no kind of analyst. With the number of players in front of him (he’s probably behind Pete Robertson on the depth chart), Nicolas probably isn’t going to be on the 53 in Week 1 against the Cardinals, but he looks like a very strong candidate for a practice squad spot, and it would only take an injury or two to see him on the field in burgundy and gold in December.

The San Jose Sharks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 on Sunday and then proceeded to land one of their forwards in a trade. The Red Wings announced they traded right-winger Gustav Nyquist to San Jose in exchange for a 2019 second-round draft pick and 2020 conditional third-round draft pick. John Shannon of Sportsnet noted Nyquist waived his no-trade clause to facilitate his move to the Sharks.Nyquist scored a goal in the loss to the Sharks and had 48 points on 15 goals and 33 assists in his first 61 games of the season for Detroit. He is a consistent playmaker in the offensive zone and has tallied 40 or more points in each of the last six seasons. He is a free agent following this season Vladimir Tarasenko Jersey , so it made sense for the struggling Red Wings to trade him before potentially losing him to the open market without a return. Only the Ottawa Senators (49 points) have fewer points in the Eastern Conference than Detroit's 55.As for the Sharks, they are in second place in the Pacific Division with 82 points and primed for a potential playoff run in the Western Conference. They are third in the league in goals per game (3.62), and Nyquist gives them someone who figures to only bolster those totals. Not only was San Jose able to land an impact player like Nyquist without giving up a first-round pick, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic noted the Red Wings will retain 30 percent of his salary. He could make his debut for San Jose on Tuesday when it takes on the Boston Bruins. Raider Nation confidence holds steady after loss in Denver Oakland Raiders Hats , suggesting possible ‘moral victory’ in Derek Carr performance With an 0-2 start to the season, right now Raiders Nation is grasping at whatever hope they have that things will turn around soon. Two second half collapses in which the Raiders have been outscored 43-7 would figure to be pretty damaging. After the first week, our confidence poll showed a drop from 82% to 50%. A second loss in Denver would figure to drop that confidence some more. But it didn’t This week our FanPulse confidence poll remained steady at 50%The only place that hope could be coming from right now is from the show Derek Carr put on in Denver.Even with the Raiders losing the game 20-19, Carr finished 29 of 32 for 288 yards and a touchdown. His 90.6 completion percentage 4th in NFL history for QB’s with at least 27 attempts. Just three completions, with one of them a flat drop by the fullback on what would have been a crucial 4th down conversion late in the game.No one likes the term ‘Moral victory’ but the results here suggest it’s real. Carr has an abysmal performance in the opener against the Rams. He turned it around in the second game which is a tremendous relief for fans. Therefore, even with another loss, they don’t feel any different now than they did last week. Half are confident, the other half, not so much. My guess is a win in Miami would quickly shoot that confidence back up. Should they lose Oakland Raiders Hoodie , it will be interesting to see what it does to the confidence poll then. Results are from our SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across the NFL powered by SurveyMonkey. Each week, we send 32 polls to 100+ plugged in fans from each team. Thomas dropped three passes against the Raiders last week, when he had five receptions for 18 yards. Only four times has he had fewer yards in a game since becoming a starter in 2012.His biggest drop last week came with Denver at midfield, trailing by two points with 22 seconds left. Thomas sprinted up the right sideline and deked his defender into leaving him wide open. Keenum delivered a pass on target and on time Customized Oakland Raiders Jerseys , but the ball sailed through Thomas' hands. On the next play, Keenum hooked up with Tim Patrick for his first NFL reception, a 26-yarder that set up Brandon McManus' 36-yard field goal that beat the Raiders 20-19 .Thomas' early-season troubles are reminiscent of 2015, when he dropped eight passes before November, then added five drops against New England in a game when his sole catch proved crucial to Denver's win in overtime that helped propel the Broncos to the Super Bowl 50 title.Thomas said his only focus this week was on trying to help his team out Sunday when the Broncos (2-0) visit Baltimore (1-1), and his latest bout of drops apparently hasn't alarmed his coaches."He's OK," coach Vance Joseph said, adding that the coaching staff can provide a boost by calling his number early and often."It's our job to get him going early and to get him his confidence early," Joseph said. "When guys go through a whole half and have one attempt or two attempts www.raidersfootballauthentics.com , that's tough for receivers. If he has his first attempt and he drops it or it's a bad ball, that's a mind war. It's our job to get him going early. It's his job to play with confidence, and he will."Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said he believes that corrections need to be made in the flow of the game without regard to a specific player who might be struggling with catches or confidence."We're just trying to give everybody the ball," Musgrave said. "We don't want to start worrying about one guy here ... We've just got to let the ball find everybody in the system, whether it's handing off or throwing it. If we do a good job, I think everybody will get their touches."Keenum sees any hiccups right now as the inevitable crimps that will dissipate as the offense develops."The team that you are in September is always very different then the team you are in December," Keenum said. "I think that's why you come out every day and practice. You grind away at those little itty-bitty details, mechanics and footwork, routes and protections Oakland Raiders T-Shirt , so that you can keep building this library, keep building this trust, keep building this chemistry with these guys with the offensive line, the running backs, the receivers."All so you can trust on that when it comes down to December, January, and hopefully February."ROUGHING RULEJoseph said he understands why the league is emphasizing roughing calls on quarterbacks this season."They want the quarterback not to be punished. Back when I played, that was the key to the game: How much can you punish the quarterback? But it's changed," Joseph said. "They want you to sack the quarterback and turn your body and not put your full body weight on the guy."Joseph said he concurs with the league's efforts to keep QBs safe."I don't want Case hit that way. So Oakland Raiders Hats , it goes both ways with the players. So, I agree with it," Joseph said. "We haven't had a play yet that has cost us. So, I don't have a problem with it. That could change in two weeks. But it's for the safety of the position."
